There are many ways that Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, herpes, and HIV can be transmitted from one person to the next. In addition to sexual activity, STDs can be communicated through pregnancy, needle-sharing, skin-on-skin contact, and even breastfeeding.
STDs can be spread through any form of sexual activity. Current STD facts indicate that Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and HIV are often communicated through body fluids. Although diseases such as Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and HIV are spread through body fluids, Herpes and other STDs are spread through skin-to-skin contact. Condoms may reduce the transmission of STDs, but they are not foolproof.
Many STD cases exhibit little or no signs and symptoms. If you are a Chicago area resident who is concerned that you may have contracted an STD, the only way to determine whether or not transmission has actually occurred is through a simple STD test.
